Taipei: City Proper

"Taipei" sometimes refers to the whole metropolitan area, while "Taipei City" refers to the city proper. Taipei City proper is surrounded on all sides by New Taipei. Despite its facade of mordern prosperity, Taipei, the capital of  Taiwan, maintains historic site that preserve the essence of traditional culture. Andit provides an abundance of ways to enjoy yourself  both day and night, with bustling business districts, tourist night market, fanstatic museums, quaint temples hundreds of years old--and the world tallest building Taipei 101.


National Palace Museum


The National Palace Museum contains the world's largest and most valuable collection of chinese art and artifacts covering 5,000 years from history. From Neolithic times down to the end of Ching Dynasty in the early20 century. The treasures here inlcude porcelains, sculpture, paintings and calligraphy--almost 65,000 item in all. The exterior of the museum mimics that of the original in Beijing and the display in its main exhibition building are categorized into bronzes, ceramics, paintings and calligraphy, and jade. Here the visitor can observe how the chinese art evolved throughout history.

Presidential Office Buildig

The impressive Renaissance-style Presidential Office Building was built during the Japanese occupation period (1895-2945) as the governor-general’s office. Ever since its completion in 1919, it has been Taiwan’s highest seat of power. Severely damages by bombing in the waning years of World War II, it wan rebult n 1946 and has served as the Presidential Office.

228 Memorial Peace Park




228 Memorial Peace Park: This park, the oldest in Taipei, was originally developed in 1899. In its latest incarnation it memorializes the Feb 28 incident, and it contains a monument and a museum devoted to that event. It also contains the classic Greek-style National Taiwan Museum.

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall



Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall: The impressive monument in central Taipei has a roof, design on the Altar of Heaven in Beijing, topping a pyramidal body. The Vast surrounding gardens, which contain a variety of plants and carp ponds, have become a favorite leisure for the city’s residents. The large plaza that fronts the memorial hall is flanked by the classical Chinese-style National Theater on one side and the National Concert Hall on the other, two institutions that present a regular program of domestic and international performance.
