Angkor Wat: Combodia

Angkor Wat is a temple complex at Angkor, Cambodia, for the King Suryavarman II in the early 12th Century, built as a state and its capital city. As the best preserved temple on the site, it has remained to be the only significant religious center since its foundation - first Hindu, dedicated to the god Vishnu, then Buddhist. It is the world's largest religious building.

The temple complex of Angkor in Cambodia is an architectural masterpiece. It was built in the jungle at the beginning of the XII century, then, two centuries later, was abandoned by some mysterious circumstances of the Khmer (previously it was their capital city).

Cambodia – The Angkor temple complex
Soon the jungle swallowed Angkor, hide it for several centuries under the thickets of the rainforest. The only thing which could not hide the forest, was stony ledge built, which was accidentally discovered in 1861 by the French naturalist. Soon archaeologists have shown the world a magnificent Angkor. Today, visitors are stunned by the architectural decoration and excellent stone carving. Most striking up to exquisite female figures ("Apsaras") to consider Angkor located.

The temple complex of Angkor is the only facility built man in the past and the size is equal to the square of Paris. This whole "city" is Angkor. The main building of the temple:

Phnom - look at it, one can say what a destructive force jungle. The roots of a banyan tree caught him like a giant octopus. Banteay Srey - is a small "diamond" of Angkor. Sculptures of Banteay are delicious. Angkor Tom - is located in a vast territory and should be much larger than its neighbor, the temple complex of Angkor. But the construction is not as well preserved. This place is interesting, as the archaeologist for the tourists.
