Obidos-Portuguese Castles

Location: Europe. Portugal
Obidos is a town of approximately 3100 inhabitants and municipal seat of the municipality of Obidos, located in the Oeste Subregion, of the historical district of Leira, in Portugal.

Porta da Vila, It is the main entrance to the castle. Here, one can admire an oratory with a balcony covered with 18th century tiles representing the Passion of Christ. One can find the inscription referring to the Patroness Saint of Óbidos, Our Lady of Sorrow, stating the following: “The Virgin, Our Lady was conceived without original sin”.
There are also two interesting details at the Town Gate are: the painted ceiling, recently restored, representing a crown of thorns; and the double doors typical of Portuguese Castles.


Santa Maria Church Famous for being the site where the 10-year-old Afonso V married his cousin aged 8, also boasts exquisite 17th-century tiles and a fine Renaissance tomb
